In true Mornflake style we celebrated the exciting build up to this year’s summer of sport at the Home of Great British Oats with our very own health and fitness event – the Oat Games!
We invited some of our favourite Instagrammers and bloggers to show us their metal in a CrossFit workout hosted by one of our lovely oat farmers, Hartley and Liz Rushton in a stunning Mornflake Oat crop in the heart of the Cheshire countryside.
Things got hot and sweaty after a series of challenging workouts with Mornflake’s amazing local CrossFit ‘Box’ CW1, followed by a cool yoga session led by no other than the Boys of Yoga! After being put through our paces, efforts were rewarded with a delicious menu of energising oaty snacks whipped up by the lovely Nic’s Nutrition! A programme of recipes was developed by Nic to support each stage of the Oat Games workout, showcasing the nutritional benefits of oats as part of your fitness routine.
We would like to thank everyone for coming and hope our guests had as much fun as we did! We can’t think of a better way to taste and experience the nutritional benefits of Mornflake oats than where our seeds are sown!

POWER UP With OATBRANOatbran & Pear Energy Smoothie by Nic's Nutrition
Oatbran is the fibre-rich outer layer of the grain which provides less calories and around 50% more fibre than standard oats*. Oatbran is very filling (and so satisfying!) which makes it a great addition to a pre-workout morning smoothie. Unsweetened almond milk is used as the liquid in this recipe (to provide more taste than water) in combination with the warming spices ginger and cinnamon. Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and has been shown to help to reduce muscle pain following exercise** and cinnamon helps to slow the release of energy from the carbohydrates*** (which in this case is the pear, oatbran and honey) to provide sustained energy to fuel a workout or just your morning ahead!

REFRESH WITH ‘PRO-OAT’ POWERStrawberry, Banana & Oat by Nic's Nutrition
Protein is essential post-workout to stop the breakdown of muscle and allow for muscle repair*. Oats naturally provide 17g of protein per 100g** and in this recipe have been combined with Greek yoghurt; another food rich in protein. This recipe also provides energy (carbohydrates) from the banana and oats to help replenish muscle stores*** as well as antioxidants from the strawberries for the immune system.****

RESTORE & REPLENISH WITH SUPERFAST OATSDate & Oat Energy Balls by Nic's Nutrition
Pure, natural wholegrain goodness. Oats are great for restoring your energy levels after a workout. Dates, like oats, are a fantastic source of energy as well as fibre. They taste naturally sweet which makes them an ideal healthy alternative to sugary sweets. The cocoa in this recipe provides antioxidants* and adds a lovely chocolatey taste too.VIEW THE FULL RECIPE
Almond Butter & Oat Protein Bites by Nic's Nutrition
Almond butter & oat bites are high in protein thanks to the nut butter, whey protein and oats which help to repair muscle damage and promote muscle growth and strength following exercise*. Healthy fats from the nut butter help our body to absorb the fat soluble vitamins - vitamin A, D, E and K and help to promote satiety; leaving us feeling full until our next meal.
