Mick

In Memory of Mick: A Much-Loved Colleague

Mornflake is deeply saddened to share the passing of former colleague Michael Broadhurst, known to all as Mick – a much-loved member of the team, remembered for his warmth, humour and sociable nature.

Colleagues gathered to pay their respects as Mick’s funeral cortege passed the Mornflake mill on Gresty Road, Crewe – a place that had been such a big part of his life.

A proud Crewe man, Mick was a devoted husband, father of two and grandfather of four. He dedicated 31 years to Mornflake, joining in April 1985 as a cleaner before progressing to the Intake Department, where he played an important role in checking and testing oats before production.

Mick was known as a sociable character who enjoyed spending time at the pub and following his beloved Leeds United and Crewe Alexandra. He remained a familiar and well-liked figure to many across the site throughout his years with the company.

John Lea of Mornflake, who joined colleagues outside the mill to pay tribute, said: “Mick was a valued member of our team for much of his life. We remember him not only for his dedication and work ethic, but for his warmth, humour and kindness. He will be fondly remembered.”

Mick retired from Mornflake in August 2016 but remained a well-regarded figure to many who had the pleasure of working with him.

A service celebrating Mick’s life was held at Crewe Crematorium. Donations in his memory are being made to the Stroke Association: https://funeral-notices.co.uk/notice/broadhurst/5294136
