Walking
An activity for all. Walking gets us outdoors into the fresh air and can be a mentally and physically stimulating activity. This country offers some fantastic walks; where ever you are you will always be able to find a great route.

Aerobics class
An exerting and physically challenging class, designed to help burn calories from the body’s fat
stores and gradually get the body fitter. It can be good fun working in a group and the studio
instructor can be a great source of motivation.

Gardening
Looking after your garden is not only rewarding and challenging but it provides a good deal of
work on your body too, with all the twisting, bending, pushing and digging you will find the
calories soon start getting worked off!

Dance class
A dance class can be as physically challenging as any other type of class and at the same
time you can learn how to move properly! Dance classes provide a variety of movements
and work the body in all different angles, so your fitness levels will certainly improve as will
your muscle tone.

Playing in the Park
It just goes to show activity doesn’t have to be structured to be fun. Get the family and the little ones out and enjoy a ball game in the park

Racquet Sports
Great for fitness and improving agility, racquet sports require co-ordination, flexibility and concentration. If you also follow a gym programme you may want to try and find exercises to improve the mobility of the shoulder for even greater speed and power.

Golf
Ensure your training is specific to your goals. Most programmes should contain some form of resistance training, this doesn’t always mean lifting weights. With so much equipment to choose from it’s important to get the right advice before starting.

Cycling
An ideal opportunity to travel longer distances and enjoy the scenery without the restrictions of the car. Have you ever thought of cycling to work each day? It’s fantastic training for the lower body including the legs and bum

Running / Jogging
Running on a treadmill in a gym is slightly easier than running outdoors, but either will burn those calories. Why not take part in some local charity runs, a great way to maintain motivation and raise money for a good cause!

Housework
Don’t underestimate how much activity is involved in house work, think of all the movements
involved and all the walking about that is done, not only this, but having a clear out of the
garage or the spare wardrobe is a great tonic for psychological health as it helps give you
an organised feeling.

Swimming
One of the best total body exercises you can do, and what’s more there is little impact to the body so the risk of injury or discomfort is minimised. If you fancy something a bit different maybe consider some of the aquarobics that many health facilities have running.

Horse Trekking
If you wish to blend you love of the great outdoors and active lifestyle with animals, and taking the dog for a walk is not always enough, have you ever considered horse trekking. You’ll be amazed how much you have to work your legs and arms to stay on top of the horse!

Water Sports
If you really enjoy being in the water, maybe look into some of the fantastic water sports that you can take part in. Activities such as canoeing, surfing, wind surfing, water skiing and sailing are all great fun – get active… get wet!

Rock Climbing
A challenging activity that does require certain levels of fitness and strength in thebody. Before heading outdoors to climb the real thing, consider finding your own local indoor climbing wall to develop your confidence and technique, it might just be the challenge you need.

Pilates
Pilates is the perfect way to improve your posture and the tone of the muscles. Aerobically it is quite a low exertion level, so you don’t need to worry about getting out of breath. A pilates class can also be a good starting point for any exercise programme and can be maintained all year round.
