Preheat oven to 180°C/350°F.
Oil a square tin and line it with greaseproof paper.
Melt the butter or margerine, milk, treacle and sugar in a large saucepan over a low heat. Stir well, then remove from the heat.
Stir in the dry ingredients and pour into the prepared square tin.
Bake in the oven for 20 minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 150°C/300°F and bake for a further 35 minutes until firm.
When cooked allow to stand for 15 minutes before turning out. This can then be cut into squares and enjoy!
