Preheat oven to 180C/340F/Gas mark 4 and grease an 18cm x 24cm baking tray or tin with butter.
Melt the butter and syrup together in a large pan; remove the pan from the heat, then add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
Spoon the mixture into the prepared tin and press down firmly with the back of a spoon.
Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes until the flapjacks are golden brown.
Mark into 9 or 12 squares and allow to cool completely before cutting with a sharp knife and serving.
Store in an airtight tin.
