Oat Bran

Oat Bran Oat Bran

Where do we start on the wonders of Oat Bran, and firstly what is it? Well, when we receive our Oats from farm one of the first jobs after cleaning is to remove the outer husk of the Oat (this husk isn't Oat Bran as some reports suggest). What's left after this 'shelling' process is the 'groat' and it's the outer layer of the groat which is called the bran, hence the name Oat Bran. Separating this layer off the groat is pretty tricky and a bit of a family secret but when we're all done we're left with Oat Bran - one of the most underestimated foods around! Oat Bran is one of the richest natural sources of beta glucan soluble fibre which has been shown to lower blood cholesterol, and therefore may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease when eaten as part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Clever stuff!
