Crewe Alexandra have had a great start to the League 2 play-off finals with a 1-0 win over Southend in front of a full house at Gresty Road. This victory has made it 17 games unbeaten and one more will see the Railway Men reach the play-off final at Wembley on Sunday, May 27th. Under the guidance of Steve Davis, a breakfast club has been introduced that gets the players eating together before they train. Surprise, surprise this is packed with our oats and porridge! Good luck boys, as always we're very proud to both support and sponsor you - we hope to see you at Wembley!

Richard Jones helps Cheshire East Fostering and Adoption Recruitment manager Stephen Kelly and foster carers Ben and Becci Dearnaley of Weston load up with Oats2Go porridge pots. Mornflake is helping to raise the profile of a foster care campaign in Cheshire. We supported the Cheshire East Council recruitment campaign by supplying more than 2,000 of our popular Oats2Go porridge pots which will be handed out to the public during a series of summer roadshows. Staff from the council's fostering and adoption team will be handing the pots to potential foster carers and adoptive parents at Handforth Dean shopping centre on May 24 and 25, Tatton Park on May 27, the Cheshire Show on June 19 and 20 and the Nantwich Show on July 25. Our marketing manager Richard Jones said: "We wanted to do our bit to support this very worthy initiative. Nationally there is a shortage of 10,000 foster carers and Cheshire East Council has to be commended for all it is doing to help ease the plight of children needing a kind and loving home." Councillor Hilda Gaddum, Cabinet member with responsibility for children and family services, said: "I would like to thank Mornflake for its kind donation. It is encouraging that such a well-known local firm is supporting our efforts in fostering and adoption." For more details on fostering call 0300 123 3223.

Double Triumph for Mornflake in National Awards Scheme

Mornflake breakfast cereals have creamed off two major awards in an award scheme led by supermarket giants Waitrose. We beat more than 200 companies countrywide to carry off the top 'Waitrose Way' award for our green-minded approach to production and sustainability of our products. Entrants had to demonstrate the important role their business plays in safeguarding the future of the environment and the food industry. A panel of distinguished judges including Zac Goldsmith MP, Dame Julia Cleverdon, Tristram Stuart and Dr Alan Knight, worked alongside senior Waitrose buyers and the retailer's Corporate Social Responsibility team, to select Mornflake as the brand that went the extra mile to enhance the sustainability of its business and ultimately the food that ends up on supermarket shelves. Waitrose managing director Mark Price said: "We are delighted to recognise and reward best practice in our supply chain. Our suppliers share our commitment to reducing the environmental impact of food production, supporting British farmers and growers, helping people enjoy healthy lifestyles and ensuring fair treatment for all in our business and the wider community. We hope these well deserved awards clearly demonstrate the lengths our suppliers go to in ensuring the sustainability of the food we sell." We were also Highly Commended in the Living Well category acknowledging the health-boosting benefits of our porridge products and cereals. Marketing manager Richard Jones said: "The quality of our products is paramount but so is protecting the environment. Our aim is to deliver breakfast cereals to the bowl in the most eco-friendly way possible and we are developing a long-term strategy to become a carbon neutral business. "We believe in selecting and milling only the finest grain and in using time-honoured techniques developed over the long history of the company. "To win the top award for these efforts and to be recognised for the quality of our products is a double triumph and a real credit to everyone involved in the whole journey of the oat to nation's breakfast table." Last year we created the world's first modern day windmill at our Scottish production base in Banffshire. The £3.5m wind turbine uses the latest technology to harness power to run the mill and feed the excess into the national grid.

Congratulations to our marketing manager Richard Jones (pictured) after completing his first Virgin London Marathon in a highly commendable 4 hours and 15 minutes yesterday. An old knee injury came back to haunt Richard, 42, in the final weeks of his training and kicked in hard in the last 10 miles of the marathon. He said: "It's a lottery where you start the marathon. I was placed at Gate 9, far back from the start line and behind the charity runners and fancy dress entrants. "They weren't marathon die-hards just big-hearted people raising what they could for their chosen causes. I found them quite inspirational, especially those running in memory of loved ones. "The crowds were also fantastic, cheering every step of the way. They gave sweets and water, willing everyone past the finish line. It was quite emotional and when my knee started to play up after 16 miles, I was just thrilled to get past the finish line." Richard was fuelled by a diet of Mornflake porridge and pasta throughout his several months of training for the event. He was also spurred on by colleagues who, through sponsorship, have helped him raise more than £2,000 which is to be split between Breast Cancer and Prostate Cancer charities.

Mornflake Launches World's First Modern-Day Windmill

We have combined our three-and-a-half centuries of milling expertise with the latest technology to create the world's first modern-day windmill near Boyndie, Banffshire, in the North East of Scotland. Welcomed by Chris Huhne, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, the windmill begins full operations today. We are proud to have returned to the traditional practise of harnessing wind, to power our milling machines at the facility by investing £3.5m in a 2.3MW wind turbine. The new turbine provides more than enough energy to power the mill, with any excess being fed into the national grid. We hope the new windmill will safeguard the rich tradition of growing and milling oats in the north of Scotland for generations to come. Milling since William Lea founded the company in 1675 and now fifteen generations later, our family is committed to its environmentally sustainable aims and the wind turbine is the first of many long-term initiatives to becoming a carbon neutral business. The new facility will provide 25% of the company's total energy needs, saving 4,000 tonnes of CO 2 emissions each year. Commenting on the new facility, John Lea, managing director, said: "When my great-great-grandfather introduced steam power into his milling operations, he must have thought the days of the windmill were well and truly numbered. By harnessing the latest technology and our ancient milling expertise, we've come full circle and are once again seeing cereal bowls across the UK and beyond filled with oats from a Mornflake windmill. "Anybody who has been to the north of Scotland can see that it has fantastic conditions for driving wind turbines, but may not know its fields grow the best quality oats in the world. It's the perfect combination." Mornflake is to mill all the oats in every box of its cereal product range from our mills in Boyndie and Crewe. The new turbine was erected on the site following an extensive consultation process with the local community and five years of planning. With no objections to the proposal, the German-built turbine was erected in late November for testing. Today's announcement was welcomed by Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Chris Huhne, by saying: "The new windmill is a big boost to a sustainable food industry. By following this lead, other companies can take advantage of the Government support for renewable technologies which will not only lead to a reduced carbon footprint, but also help safeguard jobs and profitability." The world's first modern-day windmill begins powering Mornflake's Boyndie milling operations - the most modern in Western Europe - today. Find out more about our windmill and how it was built here

Elderly folk across Cheshire are tucking into a warm and wholesome breakfast after we teamed up with Age UK to distribute a large donation of porridge. More than 800 bags each containing 500g of our top-selling oats were handed out to pensioners attending special coffee mornings and advice sessions. Our marketing manager, Richard Jones, said: "Porridge is the perfect breakfast food for people of any age but we especially wanted to support Age UK Cheshire and its work with some of the most vulnerable members of our community. Rising fuel and food costs don't make life easy for pensioners and this is one way we can do our bit to help." Scores of pensioners welcomed advice on health, money and legal issues at an open day at the Oakley Centre, Crewe where the bags were distributed. Further events were staged at GP surgeries in South Cheshire and many more senior citizens went away happy with their porridge. BAGS OF HELP: Matthew Woodfield of Mornflake and Georgina Alexander of Age UK Cheshire help distribute porridge to pensioners visiting the Oakley Centre event in Crewe.

Speaking after immediately after Lee said,"I annihilated it. Over a one-mile distance, to knock 19 seconds off the time is ridiculous." "I feel fresh. I feel as if I could run it again under five minutes 35 seconds. I did far better than I expected."

Letter from Oxford University Caving Club

Dear Mornflake, For years Oxford University Caving Club has fuelled expeditions based on Mornflake instant oats, and this year was no different. To mark thirty years since the discovery of Xitu, the first 1000m cave explored by British cavers, we returned there this summer with a view to tick off unexplored leads, or follow them to...? As well as this we also wished to bottom the cave in double quick time to allow a team of British cave divers to complete one of the worlds deepest through trips, down Cueva Culiembro, dive through flooded passage to Xitu and then exit up 1136m of cave into the Spanish sun. Sadly we didn't see a great deal of sun this year, infact the Ario plateau seemed to be firmly lodged in a dreadfull rain cloud for days at a time. As we found out, Xitu has quite a sudden reaction to rainfall. As such great care was required to look after ourselves, and through these periods of rainfall we had no choice but to not cave, the choices being that or risk flooding... We ain't silly. So, the diving goals were not possible, however we did manage to get almost to the bottom in our little windows of dry weather. Everyone had a fantastic time, and no doubt it will remain in the minds of all who were involved for many years to come, as a fantastic expedition. I would like to extend the thanks of all expedition members to Mornflake for your ongoing support of our expeditions. This generous support has helped many an expedition, and never goes without mention from OUCC members. Aswell as a solid breakfast, the cans themselves are of course of endless uses, from toilet roll tubs to sugar pots to candle holders. The picture was taken at base camp, situated in The Hall of The Mountain Dwarf, ~-550m, Pozu Del Xitu, 2011, as well as a selection of other nice pictures. All credit for these shots goes to Ross Hemsley. Once again, big thanks for your support, I look forward to some more porridge and honey next year. Yours gratefully, Callum Braithwaite Sponsorship Officer OUCC Xitu 2011
