To celebrate our love of horticulture and British land we've teamed up with our Cheshire neighbours, the Cholmondeley Estate, to create a beautiful garden in the Great Pavilion at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2016.
The garden represents two of Cheshire's oldest and most notable families coming together, the Cholmondeley family, who have resided at Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire since the Norman times and 15th generation family oat miller, Mornflake, to celebrate their roots in the land that has shaped their history and longevity.
Designed by Cholmondeley Castle's award-winning head gardener Barry Grain, this glorious garden is a stunning recreation of Cholmondeley Castle's 'Garden of Distinction' Temple Garden and a homage to the agricultural roots that carve out the estate.
About Our Garden
Notes from Head Gardener Barry Grain...
"The Temple Garden exhibit is one of the few 'Northern' gardens of its kind to be shown in the Great Pavillion at Chelsea."
The eye is drawn through sumptuous planting to the ironwork, whilst the millstone path meanders through the garden, symbolising the partnership with Mornflake and the agricultural underpinning of the Cholmondeley Estate.
Under the path arises a stream, which flows through the rocks into the main pond. The planting displays the natural feel and stong botanical interest of Cholmondeley, with many of the plants rarely seen at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Specimen trees, shrubs and ferns provide structure, whilst the under-planting has a natural feel with choice perennials including large drifts of Primula and Meconopsis. The quaking gras, Briza, further represents Mornflake and our foundations withing the Cheshire countryside.
